Exceptional and rare carpet from the Karabakh.
Named after the village of Chondsoresk, which is located approximately in the middle of the Karabakh. A unique village consisting mainly of cave dwellings.
Inhabited until the 1950s.
Dated: 1282 = 1865 in our Western calendar.
The design is often referred to as a cloud band—that is an incorrect term.
What we see are stylized dragons.
The swastikas between the dragons are also characteristic.
A mystical design.
I carefully washed this carpet with cold water and no soap.
The dust is gone.
Examples of these carpets can be found in Schurmann.
And Orientteppiche by Doris Eder for Battenberg.
