This is a stylish cabinet from the Regancy period in England. (1810)
Counterpart of the Empire in France and the Continent.

Revolutionary was disappearing of the round shapes, straight sleek shapes took their place.
It was also the time of the Dandy, tight trousers, loose, messy hair and a shawl around the neck.
A very hip time, the more conservative people spoke out against it.

This cabinet is therefore very sleek in shape, but very beautifully made and with sleek real ebony piping in a nice contrast to the light colour of the wood.
The wood is precious and rare 'Geelhout', from South Africa.
Podocarpus latifolius.
These trees can become 40 meters high and grow very slow.
They can become very old like 500 years.
It has an exceptionally good quality and is also very popular because it is so beautiful.
It is still found in old houses in South Africa as floorboards or chopping blocks.
In 1797 the English came to conquer South Africa and since than this wood came as a curiosity to England and France to make exclusive furniture.

The interior had later become extra shelves.
To be able to accommodate more and more practical clothing or other things.

The back inside is also later.
But that is not noticeable, certainly not when the cabinet is used again as it was intended - to put clothes in.
