A beautiful and stylish Louis XVI buffet.
Circa 1775.
The top is veneered with very special Cuban mahogany – an extinct wood species. This mahogany was already very valuable and special in 1775.

A surprising and playful piece of furniture.
This buffet is a true buffet.
You can fold up the top, making the buffet 154 cm high.
This section then reveals a beautiful – original – pewter pitcher.

Underneath this pitcher is a pewter basin for ice cubes and water for chilling wine or champagne.
Everything is in good and usable condition.
Four shelves can be folded out for storing wine glasses, for example.
Two more shelves can be pulled out on the sides to accommodate more tableware.
The drawers have compartments lined with green felt for cutlery.
The felt is clean and in like-new condition.

This is how people sometimes dined in the dining room back then.

The doors feature rocailles, intarsia work of irregularly shaped shells that were very popular at the time.

There are also very artistically inlaid piping.
